Deception Pass Bridge connects beautiful Whidbey Island to Fidalgo Island in the U.S. state of Washington. Today 20,000 cars cross this bridge daily. It was a Washington State Highways project, and was built by young workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps. The bridge is a commonly photographed landmark of the Puget Sound region. The bridge, one of the scenic wonders of the Pacific Northwest, is built over a deep and turbulent channel with strong undertoes. Maximum speed of the current in Deception Pass at ebb tide is 9 kts and the maximum speed of current in Canoe Pass at ebb tide is 10 kts. The bridge is actually two spans, one over Canoe Pass to the north, and another over Deception Pass to the south. Pass Island lies between the two bridges. Construction began in August 1934, and the completed bridge was dedicated at noon on July 31, 1935. Height from water to roadway is about 180 feet, depending on the tide. Bridge length is 1487 feet (more than a quarter mile). Canoe Pass has one 350-ft arch and three concrete T-beam approach spans. Deception Pass has two 175-ft cantilever spans, one 200-ft suspended span, and four concrete T-beam approach spans.

The perspective and interesting placement of this bridge drew my vision right in. I love the slight bit of tension in this almost abstract work Cheryl. F/L
